Triggers
Beyond pressing GO, cues can fire automatically. Configure triggers in a cue's Trigger tab.
The rule of thumb across the inspector: the Trigger tab holds every INPUT that can fire this cue (GO mode, keyboard, timecode, time of day, DMX input); the Control tab holds every OUTPUT the cue produces when it fires (its target or payload, MIDI sends). Light cues are the exception: their look, tracking and scene settings sit on the Playback tab, leaving MIDI alone on Control.
#Trigger mode (TRIGGER column)
The most common trigger:
- GO: a manual GO press is required (top-level cues only).
- Follow: fires when the previous cue finishes playing.
- Time: fires the cue's TRIG TIME after the previous cue starts.
- Immediate: fires at the same instant as the cue before it (or, inside a Group, at the same instant as the group).
#Delays around a cue
- PRE-ROLL: a delay between this cue being triggered and actually starting.
- POST TIME: a gap after this cue finishes before the next cue auto-follows. Both are columns in the cue list; see "Firing & Transport" for worked examples.
#Keyboard hotkey
Assign any letter (A–Z) or function key (F1–F12) to a cue. Pressing that key fires the cue directly from the main window. Keys have no effect while a text field is focused.
#Timecode (MTC or Art-Net chase)
Enable "Timecode trigger" and set an HH:MM:SS:FF value. When CueStudio 2 is chasing incoming timecode — MTC (Show Settings ▸ MIDI) or Art-Net network timecode (Show Settings ▸ DMX) — the cue fires as that timecode is crossed.
#Time of day
Enable "Time of day trigger" and set an HH:MM:SS wall-clock time. The cue fires once each day when the clock reaches that time (while the show is open). Useful for installations, exhibitions, and scheduled automation.
#DMX input (Trigger tab)
Set a DMX trigger channel. When the specified incoming DMX channel crosses the threshold, the cue fires.
#MIDI input
Bind a cue to a specific Note On, CC, Program Change, or MSC command in Show Settings (global bindings).
#OSC input
Send OSC commands to CueStudio 2's built-in server to trigger any cue.
